Indiana Haunters - for Halloween and Haunt Enthusiasts - 2013-07-07 Head Cast and Weapons Build

Head Cast and Weapons Build

This was a very ambitious build. Attempted to try and do a full head cast (life cast) and also build knives from PVC sheathing.

Those doing the full head and shoulders cast all have “partners” or models. It was quite fun to watch builder and modeler work with the components to make a cast. There was the back of the head cast done with fabric and plaster. This step included adding a “release” (Vaseline or Crisco) over the models “hairy” areas. Getting the mold off of Kirby was quite eventful (and humorous).

Kirby de-molding… or should I say waxing. Kirby could have used a little more Vaseline (I think he actually used Crisco) on his back for the back of the head casting. Some of the plaster attached itself to his hairs and de-molding was quite painful for him, but entertained us all for a good 5 minutes.

Later the front cast was done. First alginate over mixed and draped over the models’ faces… which can create some fear, panic, and claustrophobia in the model.

Jim was first to get his front done. A good coat of Alginate over the face (5 minute process), then a heavy coat of plaster, another 5-10 minutes… then another wait to de-mold. The other brave contestants, Hope, Cindy, Lana still went forward with the same process after seeing and hearing about Jim’s experiences.

Those making weapons had a grand time with the power tools on hand. There was an impressive display of jig saws and sanders…. Jose brought a trailer full of equipment.  It was quite impressive to see him “wheel” out some of it. He also brought a large jug/cooler of Pina Colada drink…making the casting models quite comfortable during the molding process.
